Last December 17, 2017, the Baguio Christmas Run, organized by Active Pinas and headed by Don Santillan, had its debut event – Warm Hugs 2017.
The fun run, which was joined by over 150 runner, was composed of three categories : 10km, 5km, and 3 km. The highlights of the event were running together with Santa Claus and Princess Elsa (from the Disney movie Frozen), wearing blue Santa hats while traversing the race route, the complimentary hot chocolate upon reaching the finish line, the freebies (special thanks to Smart, Amihan, and GU), and of course the 10km Champion prize which is a pair of Brooks running shoes.
Christmas was really in the air not only because of the chilly weather in Baguio, but also because of the joyous spirits of the runners who were all smiles upon crossing the finish line. We saw children as young as 7-years old running together with their parents, runners going after and getting past Santa Claus (or the other way around), finishers warding off the cold with the event blankets (a 10km-kit-inclusion).
The proceeds of the fun run enabled the Mines View Barangay to provide a refrigerator for their Day Care Center, and provided an Aquaponics start-up set for the Permaculture and Sustainability Development Organization’s farm in Happy Hallow Barangay.
The event was made possible with the help of the registration partners – RaceYaya, Lagalag Explorations, and Country Mart; the sponsors – Brooks, GU, Suntrust Properties Inc, Smart, FinePure Water, and Amihan; and of course all the hard-working volunteers and marshalls.
See you in again for the next Warm Hugs Baguio Christmas Run 2018!
