International Elite Runners Reclaim Top Spot In Philippine Leg Of 2018 Vertical World Circuit Held At Kerry Sports Manila In Shangri-La At The Fort

Manila, 8 July 2018 – Piotr Łobodziński from Poland, and Suzy Walsham from Australia, conquered the 3rd Annual Kerry Sports Manila Vertical Run 2018 with EastWest Bank which took place at Shangri-La at the Fort on 8 July 2018—making this the third year in a row where Łobodziński and Walsham have placed first in the male and female elite runner category respectively. Łobodziński reached the top of the 250-meter tall building in 6 minutes and 56 seconds while Walsham covered the 59 floors in 8 minutes and 13 seconds.

Ryoji Watanabe from Japan, placed 2nd in the male elite runner category with a time of 7 minutes and 9 seconds, followed by Wai Ching Soh from Malaysia, who placed 3rd after 7 minutes and 23 seconds.

For the female elite runner category, 2nd place went to Alice McNamara from Australia, reaching the top floor in 8 minutes and 44 seconds with Yuko Tateishi from Japan, following in 3rd with a time of 9 minutes and 15 seconds.

Other categories included the full challenge category for individual runners that ran up all 59 floors; a team challenge category for groups of four members racing up 59 floors; a Horizon Challenge which is a midway category where runners ran up 37 floors of the building and a fun climb category where beginners ran up 20 floors.

Beginning in the hotel’s lobby, over 600 participants ran in waves of 12 to 15 runners, with each wave running in intervals of 3 minutes. They ascended 1,353 steps to the penthouse level. Runners that participate in the Elite category gain points in each country included in the Vertical World Circuit based on their ranking. These points are collated to determine the Vertical World Circuit World Campion.
